The Law of Attraction for Athletes
Written by Gregory Berge on Aug. 14th 2018
During my triathlon career, I had a vision board in my bedroom that was as big as my drive to qualify for the Olympic Games: GIANT!

In this blog post, reflecting on my career, I want to share with you what your vision board needs and in which circumstances, according to me, things manifest themselves or not into your life. Ready?

I created this vision board at the very beginning of my career. It was in front of me all the time: when I opened my eyes in the morning, when I worked on my computer and during endless hours of stretching.

On this board, there was a picture of the triathlon French national team jersey, on which I had even written my name! And you know what? I made the national team.

There was this picture of a US$ 7000 Cervelo S5 bike. And you know what? I got this bike! Cervelo even sponsored me.

There was also a picture of Brazil with the words “Rio 2016” and in 2016, I moved to an Olympic training center in a city called “Rio Maior”, in Portugal.

Then, there was a picture of an Olympic stadium with the words “Tokyo 2020”. And you know what? I live in Tokyo.

Apparently, my Law of Attraction strategy and my Vision Board tactic work like magic, right?

Well, here's the truth.

These things happened to me, not thanks to the Law of Attraction, but thanks to the Law of Hard-Work.

I became a professional triathlete in 4 years. From beginner to pro in 4 years, only because I gave this goal everything I had. All my time, my money and my energy. When you train 30 hours per week, wake up when everybody sleeps and actively recover when everybody chills, you have no choice but to become a good athlete. I refuse to believe that a few pictures on my vision board are the reason why I succeeded this way. Hard Work!

But, because I do believe in the Law of Attraction, my question is, when does the Law of Attraction actually works with athletes?

Every time I read something about the Law of Attraction, it’s about “seeing yourself”, it’s about “thinking”, it’s about “believing”.

But according to my experience. "Feeling" is the key. Seeing, thinking and believing don't work.

To attract, you must "feel". It should be called the Law of Feeling.

And what must you "feel", you might wonder?

Something visible.

Fun. Laughter. Excitement. Inspiration or another strong emotional reaction. Not hard work, not will, not focus, not even stillness or calm. It must be an emotional bomb. It must be visible.

Here is a funny story to show you how the Law of Attraction and "feeling" are associated.

A few summers ago, I owed 8000 US$ to my mother. I think she had paid for a few training camps, so I owed her that money.

Of course, like any practical person, I had a well-elaborated and conscious 8-week plan to pay her back and I shared that plan with her.

Then one day, I told her jokingly “Mom, don’t be surprised if on September 15th you see a wire transfer of 8000 $ get to your account!”

And she would laugh! And you know what? I would laugh too!

And little by little, every other day, I would tell her “Mom, don’t be surprised if…” and we would both laugh.

I went on my online back account and took a screen shot of the wire transfer page. Typical Law of Attraction strategy, here.

But the difference is that later on, this screen shot didn’t remind me of my practical 8-week plan and all the efforts I was going to have to put in to pay my mother back.

Instead, it reminded me of how much we laughed. And you know what?

I received all the opportunities necessary to pay her back on September 15th, and she did receive that US$ 8000 wire transfer.

Do you feel the difference?

If a picture reminds you of your plan, you're going to have to rely on the Law of Hard-Work.
But if a picture makes you feel something powerful/visible like laughter, then you're activating the Law of Attraction.

A picture can either serve as a conscious reminder or as an emotional cocktail.

If you laugh, get teary or fiery when thinking about that one upcoming competition, then you're on the right track.

And as Justin Timberlake famously sang, "I can't stop the feeling", right?
